It has been 16yrs since Errol Spence first met Pastor Makoni on the side of a road in Zimbabwe carving his Shona Art. Looking back now we now know that this was definitely a divine appointment. “Eye on Africa” first started buying Pastor Makonis carvings to help support him and his small family back in 1994! Every time Errol went over the friendship grew. Errol would stay with Pastor Makoni and his family in a little house shared with 6 other people and Errol would happily sleep on the floor with a blanket and share many a night with the little rats that also lived there! WE have shared life with Pastor Makonis family over these many years….through good times, tough times…So many stories to share. We remember the time when Errol felt the urgency to ring Pastor Makoni to find out that they had no money left. Many years later Jane retold the story to Donna of the time when they had nothing and Jane said to Pastor Makoni “we need to ring Errol and tell him” and Pastor Makoni said “NO..we have prayed for God to provide, we are not to ring him” Jane said within a few hours [...]

There is nothing better than seeing happy, healthy, laughing children! What a joy to see these children being kids everyday after school. Coming to VANA everyday is a place where they can just be kids! Life is SO tough in Zimbabwe that their caregivers are busy just trying to survive everyday and keep a roof over their heads. So for these children to be able to come and eat, play, have support with their homework and be loved…..is just awesome!!

Tendayi Madzimure works fulltime for VANA. Tendayi is a former school teacher who would leave about 3am to ride his bicycle for 60km to get to his school. In January of 2008 he was employed by VANA to help oversee the day to day development of the orphanage. Tendayi does not see his role at VANA as a job but as a calling from God. He is the Chairman of the VANA Board in Chivhu and is a member of the United Assembly in Africa (Chivhu) Church. Tendayi has a fathers heart and loves to help the children in the “VANA Outreach Program” write their letters back to their sponsors, he also helps them in the afternoons after school with their homework.

An amazing man of God who loves and serves God and his people. Boaz has just started at VANA as our full time Gardener..God is SO good and faithful…..and VANA is excited to have him on board. He has a beautiful wife,Kudzi, who voluntarily runs the kids club every friday afternoon and they have a lovely little one called “Peace”

We are VERY excited to announce that VANA has placed a deposit on another block of land in Chivhu. The second block of land is across the road from the existing site, and the plans are to use this land for community facilities, such as a library, medical centre, and a soccer field. We are believing in the grace of God for the provision of the funds to finance this purchase. The vision of VANA has come another step closer to being realised!!

VANA Zimbabwe were excited to receive a visit from Jason James, Executive Director of Cosmos HealthCare from Australia www.cosmoshealth.org . Jason arrived with bags of baby bundles and had a fantastic time meeting with Pastor Makoni and hearing the vision for VANA. Cosmos HealthCare has been researching the viability of setting up and sustaining medical projects in Zimbabwe for about 2 years. They are now planning a mobile clinic plan which will see a 4WD based in Bulawayo. This vehicle will be staffed by a registered nurse and an assistant/driver and will move around to several areas around Bulawayo. It will conduct health education and provide clinical care. Cosmos HealthCare believe a mobile option provides a flexible option. Cosmos HealthCare is considering partnering with VANA. Chivhu would be one of the destinations that the mobile clinic would station themselves regularly at on their travels.

Rebekah Allen who, with her husband Dion, were the first mission team to live at VANA, received a letter from one of her African mothers this week ….. ‘I pray for you because you made my life to be as easy as cutting a knife through porridge’ … ‘from the time I met you, you took all my problems to make yours and to me life started to get easier especially by the time you took all my kids to the program.’ This is a testament to how important child sponsorship is. Having her children in the Vana program has changed her life. If you are thinking of sponsoring a child please don’t hesitate there are children who need your support and help. These children are given a substantial meal every day, clothes to wear, shoes, socks, medical help when necessary-when you choose to sponsor a child. They also receive letters from you and find out that someone in the world cares about them. This gives them hope for a future – they are the future for Africa!

What a fantastic afternoon we all had last Sunday the 4th July at ‘The Mapleton Centre’ raising funds for Jenny and Laurie that are heading over to VANA for long term mission! Lots of people arrived… everyone started off by bidding on the silent auction and a fantastic afternoon tea…thankyou to the kitchen team at “The Mapleton Centre”. We certainly didn’t go hungry and we would be surprised if people even ate dinner that night! The food was divine! Once we were in our teams the trivia began and if was SO much fun! The people really made the afternoon…we all knew why we were there…we were there to support Jenny and Laurie in the mission God has given them…for Jenny and Laurie to know that they have support…prayerfully and financially AND that we all believe in what they are doing! The people and the children at VANA are excited and are preparing for Jenny and Laurie to arrive and Gods timing is just always SO perfect….at times we try to rush ahead of HIM and we all know that when we do….things just don’t go the way they should. Jenny and Laurie are obediently doing what God has put [...]
